If there is one thing for sure about 2021, it cannot be more unexpected than 2020 has been.  It does mean that for people predicting trends, the job can be a strange one because those lingering 2020 factors are still around.  But with interior trends, there is a bit more reliability to tings and predictions we can make with some confidence.  Let’s look at the top ones.

Navy as a top colour choice

The last few years have all been about neutrals and greys but in 2020, we saw navy come through as s strong interior trend and it looks like that is set to continue into 2021.  While it isn’t the easiest colour to use in interiors, it was the Colour of the Year from Pantone for 2020 and the love continues.

Navy is also a big feature in the ‘Scandi noir’ style with sophisticated, almost masculine looks to rooms.  It creates an expensive, luxury feels that can work in everything from feature wall paint or wallpaper to accessories.  Just make sure you have enough light in the room to balance it.

Textures particularly in wallpaper

Textures are always important in any room from the plush carpet on the floor to the marble countertop.  Or sometimes just creating the appearance of texture can work and that’s one popular trend for 2021.

Textured wallpaper does not need to have a texture but give the appearance of one.  A marble effect is a perfect example and much warmer than the real thing!  Wall murals are another way to bring this effect.

Greige – the neutral, neutral

Greige is a combination of grey and beige and is the ultimate neutral.  It has taken over from grey as the leading neutral shade for 2021 because it offers a slightly warmer feel.  But it still takes a bit of work to get it to achieve this.

The use of the right flooring with this colour is a big example.  Warmer coloured wood flooring or colourful carpets, even rugs can help bring the warmer tones of the colour out.

Laminate flooring continues to be strong

For flooring trends, you can bet that laminate flooring remains one of the most popular options throughout the year.  Wide plan laminates were something that started to appear in 2020 and could continue to be popular, giving the room a feel of extra space.

In terms of colours of laminate, light wood looks are popular with blonde and honey shades topping the list.  There’s also a lot of interest in real hardwood looks where each blank is individual and a bit different with colour variations in the way real hardwood floors would be.

Plants of any kind

The final trend continues from this year and involves plants of any kind.  That means real plants, faux plants, artificial greenery and any other variation.  The urge to bring the outside inside will still be a strong one into next year but if you aren’t green-fingered, then you can go with one of the high-quality imitation options to get the look.

However you decide to decorate your home this year, you will find the best selection of carpets, vinyl, laminate and real wood flooring at Adamms carpet warehouse in North Shields.
